چکیده

Bulging of a hemicranium and thinning of the temporal bone are encountered in some space-occupying processes, of neoplastic, or parasitic origin, in subdural hygromas, in infantile encephalopathies, etc., and always require supplementary investigations for their discovery and adequate surgical solution. In hygromas, there is a scarcity of neurological signs, and a slightly delayed psychical development may be the only clinical symptom associated with the cranial deformity. The present case-association of a calcified interhemispheric cerebral haematoma and a subdural hygroma occupying almost half the hemisphere-is extremely rare. It represents two evolutive aspects of an intracranial blood effusion, following upon a forgotten skull injury, at birth or during early childhood.

Acute purulent meningitis associated with chronic subdural hematoma and subdural hygroma.

A male infant aged nine months with meningeal irritation and +3.5SD expansion of the circumference of the head was admitted. Brain computed tomography (CT) detected right chronic subdural hematoma and contralateral subdural hygroma. Since the cell count was increased on a cerebrospinal fluid test, acute purulent meningitis was diagnosed. A rapid latex test and culture of cerebrospinal fluid ide...

Symptomatic Unilateral Subdural Effusion as the First Presentation of Suprasellar Arachnoid Cyst

Background and Importance: Arachnoid cysts are benign nontumoral lesions that are usually found incidentally in brain imaging. Suprasellar Arachnoid Cysts (SSACs) are rare. They can cause hydrocephalus and increased intracranial pressure, lower cranial nerve impairment and endocrine disorder. Sometimes arachnoid cysts become complicated by subdural hematoma/hygroma.  Case Presentation: We...

Series Study of Sub acute and Chronic Subdural Haematoma

Background: Subacute and chronic subdural haematoma is a common problem in the elderly population. It occurs in the context of cerebral degeneration. Trauma, intracranial hypotension, coagulopathy and chronic alcoholism are also predisposing factors. Clinical profile may present similarly to stroke, raised intracranial pressure (ICP) or dementia. CT and MRI are the diagnostic investigations. Bu...

Frequency of conservatively managed traumatic acute subdural haematoma changing into chronic subdural haematoma.

BACKGROUND Traumatic brain injury represents a significant cause of mortality and permanent disability in the adult population. Acute subdural haematoma is one of the conditions most strongly associated with severe brain injury. Knowledge on the natural history of the illness and the outcome of patients conservatively managed may help the neurosurgeon in the decision-making process. METHODS W...

Organized chronic subdural haematoma with a thick calcified inner membrane successfully treated by surgery: a case report.

The optimal surgical procedure for patients with calcified and organized chronic subdural haematoma (CSDH), or "armoured brain", has not been established because it is difficult to obtain good re-expansion of the brain after surgery. We present herein the case of a 32-year-old woman with huge calcified CSDH manifesting as refractory headache, periods of unconsciousness, and unsteady gait who ob...
